Ericsson Blackbox
Redefining Immersion:
A VR Experience Without the Headset
To showcase Ericsson’s network innovation on a global stage, we set out to create a fully immersive, shared cinematic experience that delivered the emotional impact of VR without isolating the audience behind headsets. The result was Black Box: a sound-sealed 9×12-foot spatial theater built from a seamless grid of ultra-high-resolution LED displays (9000×4000), engineered to exceed even IMAX-level visual fidelity at intimate viewing distances.
Designed for walk-in, collective immersion, the environment synchronized image, sound, and spatial presence to eliminate distractions and heighten narrative focus. Produced in collaboration with 174 contributors across six countries, Black Box debuted at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The story followed a family moving through interconnected moments in time and place, using everyday devices to make Ericsson’s promise of seamless global connectivity tangible. The central idea, “together everywhere,” became both the emotional arc and the experiential through-line.
